The Nine Best Supplements to Help You Achieve Elite Performance

Building a better athlete all comes down to training, nutrition and recovery. Nutrition is vital to both exercise performance and exercise recovery. Certain dietary supplements can also help athletic performance.

This article is about performance supplementation. Our definition of performance supplementation is anything that improves your health, wellness or athletic performance. Performance supplementation should meet the following goals:

  • Improve health
  • Improve athletic performance
  • Improve exercise recovery
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Reduce the risk of future disease
  • Minimize (not eliminate) need for medications

What we recommend:

  • For health optimization, we like to see our athletes take the following supplements:
  • Fish Oil (2.5 grams EPA/DHA daily)
    • Ask your physician to make sure you don’t have any risk for bleeding
  • Multivitamin
  • Vitamin D3
    • Ask your physician to check your levels

For athletic performance enhancement, we often recommend the following supplements to our clients:

  • Creatine 5g daily
  • Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA) 5gms twice daily or HMB 3gms daily
  • Beta Alanine 1.6 grams twice daily

For athletes that want to push the boundaries of their performance a little further, we like to include the following supplements:

  • Glutamine 5 grams twice daily
  • Magnesium Malate 500mg twice daily
  • D-Ribose 5 grams twice daily
